Faith in Action End of Life Care Ministries
Faith in Action End of Life Care Ministries is the faith community component of the outreach efforts of the Community Partnership. We provide the following:
- Support Teams – Faith communities and other community volunteers working in teams to provide practical, emotional, and spiritual support to individuals and families with health issues or other special needs. Orientation, training, and ongoing support are provided.
- Education for Faith Communities & Clergy – Programs and seminars related to advance care planning, caregiving, ministry to dying persons, grief and loss, and other end of life issues. Many faith communities feel ill prepared to deal compassionately with the increasingly complex issues related to end of life care. We offer training, presentations and consultations designed to increase both comfort and skill level in these areas.
- Schweitzer Companionship Program – A collaboration between WFUBMC School of Medicine, the Sticht Center, local faith communities and the Community Partnership for End of Life Care coordinating volunteers who provide companionship to residents of long term care facilities.
- Hospice Sabbath – The Hospice & Palliative CareCenter designates the first Sunday in November as Hospice Sabbath. To honor loved ones who have died during the year, Hospice sends a white rose and a ‘thank-you’ message on a bulletin insert to participating congregations. This is our way of thanking the community for the care they provide dying friends and family members.
