Grief Counseling Center
The experience of grief is not a sign of weakness. On the contrary, it is a healthy and appropriate response to loss. Denying grief postpones sorrow, while holding onto it may prolong pain. Understanding that loss naturally causes feelings of grief enables the healing process to begin. Recognizing the validity of grief is the initial step in accepting the reality of the loss.
Although every experience of grief is inherently unique, most people's grief follows a pattern through basic phases. Reviewing these stages with a trained counselor may help you identify your own pattern, determine where you are in the process, and anticipate what is to come.
HOSPICE BEREAVEMENT CARE
The bereavement component of Hospice care includes follow-up support at no charge for one year following the death of a loved one. These services include both individual and group counseling, telephone contact, routine mailings, and educational workshops. Support groups are designed to bring together those who are experiencing similar loss issues, such as the death of a spouse, a parent, etc. Additionally, individual and group grief counseling opportunities are also available to the community.
EDUCATIONAlong with these services, the Grief Counseling Center staff may also custom-tailor educational presentations or grief groups specific to the needs of community agencies, faith communities, organizations, schools, etc. Circumstances under which these are offered include staff development, workplace losses, sudden deaths, suicides, facilitating organizations in developing their own bereavement services, and coping with death during the holidays.
Hospice counselors are licensed professionals trained to meet the needs of grieving adults and children through a variety of therapeautic inverventions, including art therapy, play therapy and the use of sand trays. Click here to learn more about Complementary Therapies
